Perspective

How we move through life, it’s all about perspective, choices we make in moments, and gratitude for the steps we take into the next moment along the way.

On this specific day, I was late, frustrated, and had to be downtown for a meeting that wasn’t pleasant. I wrapped up the meeting feeling defeated and depleted. It was snowing so hard. I thought I could either jump on the subway back home and ruminate on what just happened or do something else…walk the Brooklyn Bridge in white-out conditions to experience the beauty and rawness of the elements against the rawness of how I was feeling at that moment. My meeting was only a few buildings from the Bridge.

The wind was whipping. The snow was this epic cascade of waves of white in front, behind, and alongside of me. I wasn’t dressed for it but I walked until I decided to turn around and head back.

I felt 100% myself, I felt alive, I was full of exuberance. It was beautiful and breathtaking just to witness the beauty of a snow-soaked bridge on a random Tuesday morning.

I asked a woman, a total stranger if she could take a photo and this is what she captured

I had a choice…to go indoors and dwell on what just happened or feel alive and experience the utter beauty of the rare moment. I had never in my life been on the bridge during a snowstorm before this moment or since and I will never forget how I felt that day, thankful for the decision I made to feel human in the beauty of the elements vs. feeling alone or sad in my 4 walls.

Nature always provides new perspectives on life, it’s always inclusive, and healing. All we need to do is show up & be present to experience the beauty of living this wild crazy thing we call life.
